Meet the Puppeteers
After completing three months of professional development in the USA, including training with Jim Henson puppeteers from The Muppets and Sesame Street, Brett Hansen and Elissa Jenkins bring world-class puppetry to the Sunshine Coast. Our performances have featured on children’s TV shows like Totally Wild, Shake Takes, The Bureau of Magical Things, and Juiced TV, as well as a feature news report WIN News Sunshine Coast.

On Friday, 15 February 2019 we’re heading up to Tewantin on the Sunshine Coast to perform a fun puppet show at Tewantin Community Kindergarten – part of C&K.
Since our formation in 2012, Larrikin Puppets has performed at many childcare and kindergarten centres including all Avenues and Guppy’s Early Learning Centres, a large number of C&K and Goodstart Early Learning Centres, and many other independent centres and kindys.
We’ve completed three months of professional development in the USA, which included performances and advanced training with Jim Henson puppeteers from The Muppets and Sesame Street.
We also perform in shopping centres, libraries, council festivals and schools all over South East Queensland and Central Queensland, and have performed puppetry on such children’s TV shows as Totally Wild, The Bureau of Magical Things and Juiced TV.
We present a colourful and excitingpuppet show for childcare centres, featuring zany Muppet-style characters performing age appropriate songs, skits, jokes, games and live interaction with the audience. The puppets encourage the audience to dance, sing and play along. There’s also a “How the puppets work” demonstration at the end.
We also offer our Story Time puppet show featuring a story book by one of three Australian children’s authors – read by Elissa with puppets demonstrating active listening and engagement, plus a story sing-along. Please let us know if you’d like us to present our story time show.
Our puppet stage is 2.5 metres wide, plus the two speakers – making our front of stage roughly 3 metres to 3.5 metres in total. We use about 1.5 to 2 metres behind the stage to set up our puppets, props, seat and ourselves for performing. We use one powerpoint.

Australia – In celebration of this land, Larrikin Puppets are about to embark on a tour of Guppy’s Early Learning Centres to perform our Australian themed puppet show. We’re travelling around this hot, brown land to bring laughter and fun to a whole chain of Queensland childcare centres in the lead up to the 26th of January and a little bit after it as well.

Brett Hansen and Elissa Jenkins, along with their troupe of friendly and funny puppet characters provide top quality entertainment and fun for childcare centres and kindergartens in and around Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and other parts of South East Queensland.
For our general comedy-variety puppet show, having the two puppeteers (Elissa and Brett) means more gender balance with some female puppet characters and more audience interaction. If that doesn’t suit your budget, the solo shows (just Brett) with “Troggg” and the gang are just as dynamic and exciting.
Please note: Shows with themed, educational content (Australia, Healthy Eating, World Environment Day, Book Week, Kindness and Anti-Bullying) will require both puppeteers.

Description:
Suitable for early childhood, with plenty of humour for the staff and teachers to enjoy too, this is a 30 minute puppet show of songs, games, jokes, skits and comical interaction with the audience. The style of puppetry is a bit like The Muppets and Sesame Street.
Educational content – such as sharing, kindness, exercise, looking after the environment and healthy eating – can also be requested in your booking enquiry. In most cases we are booked to perform our regular fun and exciting puppet show which promotes creative play!
The show is followed by an additional presentation (lasting about 5 minutes) where Brett and Elissa demonstrate to the audience how all the puppets work. Then a 5-10 minute meet-and-greet were the kids can get their photo taken with “Troggg” the blue monster and his little sister “Marina”. All up it’s about a 45 minute performance.
We also offer Story Time with Larrikin Puppets at childcare / kindy, which is a segment in which Elissa reads a children’s book by an Australian author, while Troggg, Frazzamatazz and friends play along with the story. More details about our story time segment here.
For shows where we have been requested to incorporate content on healthy eating and food allergies, this information has been sourced from consultations with expert naturopath and nutritionist Lauren Stark BHSc from Naturally For You Health & Wellness.
On the day:
Puppeteers arrive at the childcare centre 1 hour before the puppet show’s starting time to set up the stage, sound equipment, props and puppets. The show (as described above) is performed for 30 minutes, followed by the 5 minute “how the puppets work” demonstration, and the 5-10 minute meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with Troggg. The puppeteers then pack up the stage and other equipment.

He made a puppet stage out of an old fridge box, curtains out of streamers, and a collection of puppet characters – Duck, Hippopotamus, Pig and Little Bird performed for the crowd.
Many years later, the first puppet show performed under the Larrikin Puppets business was for the birthday party of Jacob in Bardon. One of the parents at that show subsequently booked Larrikin Puppets for her children’s birthday party in Paddington. Almost every other birthday party puppet show since has been booked via the booking enquiry form here on the Larrikin Puppets website.

We offer two types of sessions for Vacation Care. The younger students in Prep and Grade 1 enjoy the puppet show, while the older students from Grade 2 onwards tend to prefer our hands-on (or hands-in) puppetry performance workshop. Here are details about both:
Option 1 – Puppet Show:
Our puppet show is a colourful and fun 30 minute variety show of songs, skits, jokes and games. The style of puppetry is like The Muppets and Sesame Street. It’s all interactive and live (rather than pre-recorded). Kids are encouraged to sing, dance and play along.
The show is followed by an additional 5 minute presentation where we demonstrate to the audience how all the different puppets in our show work. Then there’s a bit of a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity where the kids can then get their photo taken with “Troggg” the friendly blue monster and his little sister “Marina”. These shows can be performed either in the school hall, in a classroom or in the library.
Time allowance for travel to and from, set-up and pack-up of the puppet stage, props, puppets and sound equipment.

Option 2 – Puppetry Performance Workshop:
We also offer a 1 hour workshop where Elissa and Brett teach Muppet-style puppetry performance for beginners. We don’t teach the building/craft side. Just the performance side. We bring along 40 workshop puppets for students to practice with in the class. We teach lip sync, eye focus, walking, arm movement, character voices, etc. Puppetry is great for building confidence, improving communication and making people laugh. Students get an opportunity to come up on stage and demonstrate what they’ve learnt in the class. The workshops usually begin with a short puppet show to demonstrate how the puppets look when performed. Total Workshop Duration: 1 hour.
